1,500 Watts to Amps, How Many Amps Is 1,500 Watts?
1,500 Watts equals 12.50 amps at 120V or 6.25 amps at 240V. Common 1500W devices: Space heater, hair dryer, electric kettle.
1,500 Watts Amps at Every Voltage
| Voltage | Single Phase | Three Phase |
|---|---|---|
| 120V | 12.50A | 7.22A |
| 208V | 7.21A | 4.16A |
| 240V | 6.25A | 3.61A |
| 277V | 5.42A | 3.13A |
| 480V | 3.13A | 1.80A |
The Formula
Single Phase: Amps = Watts ÷ Volts. For 1,500 Watts at 120V: 1500 ÷ 120 = 12.50A.
Three Phase: Amps = Watts ÷ (Volts × 1.732). For 1,500 Watts at 240V 3-phase: 1500 ÷ (240 × 1.732) = 3.61A.
With power factor: Amps = Watts ÷ (Volts × PF). A PF of 0.8 increases the current draw by 25%.
Wire and Breaker for 1,500 Watts at 120V
At 120V, 1,500 Watts draws 12.5A. Recommended: 14 AWG copper wire with a 15A breaker per NEC 310.16. For continuous loads (3+ hours), apply 125% rule. Use our Wire Size Calculator for exact sizing.
