30A/240V circuits are standard for electric dryers (NEMA 14-30) and water heaters. Requires 10 AWG copper minimum. Double-pole breaker required for 240V circuits.
The 80% Rule (NEC 210.20)
A 30 Amp breaker has a maximum continuous load of 24A (30A × 80%). Continuous loads are those expected to run for 3 hours or more. If your load exceeds 24A continuously, upsize to the next standard breaker size. Non-continuous loads can use the full 30A rating.
Wire Sizing (NEC 310.16)
